Doebel-Hickok Climbs to Sixth in Stage 2 of V-Women's Tour

A selective stage in Burton Dassett sees select group emerges to contest finale.

Rally Cycling's Krista Doebel-Hickok made it into a select group of climbers on stage 2 of the V-Women's Tour, finishing in an impressive sixth place at the end of a challenging 35 km route. Leight Ann Ganzar, who finished inside the top 10 on the opening stage, suffered a software mechanical on the start line and was unable to regain contact with the front group.

"I felt really strong today," said Doebek-Hickok. "I just tried to ride efficiently and fight all the way to the end. I'm happy with the result and to be part of the action."

The peloton split up a lot more than we saw on the opening stage as the riders took on lumpier terrain and benefitted from drafting in their groups.

"The drafting on the RGT platform is massive," added Doebel-Hickok. "Once the split happens, you know they're never going to get back unless it's a massive group. So you just have to be super vigilant, always near the front and never let even the smallest gap open."

Friday's final stage takes the riders around a 1 km circuit in Canary Wharf, London's world-famous business district.

"Thursday was basically an hour-long power test and I think the final stage will be more of the same. It's going to be a really tough race and I expect it'll stay together, although there'll be a diminished field but he end because the racing is so hard, which is great! I've loved seeing everybody show up ready to embrace this opportunity and to demonstrate that we're all still giving our best every day."
